What kind of people do we want our children to grow up to be? What skills and capabilities will they need to be the peacemakers and unity builders required for positive change in the world? What kind of families and schools are required to nurture such children? In 2002 The Family Learning House opened as a virtues-based, bilingual, Montessori kindergarten dedicated to educating children and supporting families willing to explore such challenges. For us the ultimate goal is to create a learning community of pre-school children, parents, caregivers and teachers committed to acquiring knowledge and good character so they can contribute to the betterment of the world. The Child
At The Family Learning House we believe that the child is the promise and guarantee of the future and that education can, alone, cause it to reveal its treasures and enable mankind to benefit therefrom. Every child is a unique mine rich in gems of inestimable value. Guidance and training are necessary to fulfill this vast potential.
The Parent
The parent is the primary educator of the child. The role of the parent is to have an abundance of love for the child and to consider whatever concerns the child's education to be of the first importance, including the influential home environment they consciously create.
The Guardian
Guardians are everyone else who interacts with our children on a regular basis. At the Family Learning House we commit to an education program that meets the needs of every member of our families including aunts, uncles, grandparents, ayis and drivers. The Family Learning House hosts regular guardian workshops for this special group of people that have regular interactions with our children.
The Teacher
The teacher is a model and a guide. They strive, with dedication, graciousness, and love, to educate the hearts and minds of the children in their care, ever mindful that their role is to bring forth the child‘s latent potentialities. All teachers at The Family Learning House are carefully chosen based on good character, their passion for early years education and for their own love of learning.
